SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Portsmouth woman has been charged with child abuse after she was involved in a single-vehicle crash earlier this summer.

Around 5:35 p.m. on July 25, officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Murphys Mill Road and General Early Drive, according to Diana Klink with the Suffolk Police Department.

An investigation indicated 44-year-old Susan Avery Murphy was driving a Mitsubishi Montero when she lost control of the vehicle. It rolled and came to rest on its side.

Murphy and her juvenile son were injured.

Klink said Murphy was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and refusing a blood or breath test in July. She was released on a summons and then arrested on Monday for the abuse and neglect of a child.
