PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Detectives have caught two suspects who robbed the Family Dollar on George Washington Highway Friday afternoon.

The call came in around 2 p.m. An officer was already in the area, so when pulled into the parking lot, he saw the suspects running out the front door. One of the thieves carried a gun but never fired it.

Since the cop pulled up on the crime, the two suspects were chased down and arrested just a short distance away. They had taken an undisclosed amount of money, according to authorities.

One employee was hurt and transported to the hospital, but he sustained just minor injuries, according to Detective Misty Holley with Portsmouth Police. Holley said officers don’t know how the clerk was hurt, but  emphasized the injury was not in reference to the gun.

The investigation still ongoing. Stay WAVY for this developing story.
