VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Beach Department of Public Health is warning residents of incidents involving an aggressive fox.
Two people were bitten by a fox in the Reserve neighborhood area on Friday. The fox was seen on Majestic Oak Court and Crescent Moon Court.
According to the victims, the fox was not provoked. Animal control said in one case, it ran up to the person in his/her front yard, in another, the driveway.
“This is very unusual behavior for a fox, but it is characteristic of a rabid fox,” said Meghan Conti, a animal control spokeswoman.
She can’t say for sure whether this fox is rabid because it would have to be caught and tested.
During their patrols in the area looking for the fox, animal control officers discovered a third victim in the 2900 block of Elegance Lane. The incident happened early Saturday morning, around 7 a.m. The victim was bitten in his/her front yard without provoking the animal.
The fox still has not been caught.
Anyone or any animal that may have had exposure to stray or wild animal in that area within the past few weeks should contact a physician or the Health Department at 518-2700.
If you see the fox, call 385-5000.
