Elderly woman charged in crash that injured Hampton officer, firefighter

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Police have charged an 82-year-old woman with reckless driving after she is accused of causing a crash that injured a Hampton Police officer and firefighter.

Hampton Police charged 82-year-old Regina Shortt with reckless driving after she allegedly lost control of her 2013 Hyundai and crashed into a Hampton Fire Department van, said Hampton Police Division Public Information Cpl. Mary Shackelford.

The incident happened Wednesday near Hampton Roads Center Parkway and Magruder Boulevard. According to police, the officer and firefighter were responding to another incident in the area. The impact caused the fire van to strike the police cruiser.

Both the firefighter and police officer were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. They have since been treated and released from the hospital.
