Bevin Reinen, who works at Three Oaks Elementary School, has taught for nine years – eight have been with Virginia Beach City Public Schools.

She was awarded city teacher of the year back in April, and the Virginia Department of Education named her Region 2 Teacher of the Year on Thursday, which includes school systems in Accomack, Isle of Wight, Northampton, Southampton and York counties as well as the cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and Williamsburg.

Reinen serves as an after-school tutor for kids who need extra help. She holds her bachelor’s degree in English from Mary Washington College and her master’s degree from Old Dominion University in early childhood education.

The initial citywide honor came from a pool of 87 teachers representing each city school. She will now move to compete for the title of Virginia Teacher of the Year in Richmond. That will be announced Oct. 10.
