VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The much-anticipated Nimmo Parkway extension will open Friday at noon.
It will bring much-needed relief to traffic congestion in the Strawbridge neighborhood and municipal areas of Virginia Beach.
The almost two miles of new roadway will connect Holland Road and General Booth Boulevard. The project also includes a 1,500 foot bridge and bike lanes over the West Neck Creek.
VDOT says the project, which began construction in 2012, is now 99 percent complete and drivers may be able to cruise down the new road by week’s end.
An official ribbon cutting is planned for 10 a.m. Friday, September 26.
