Arrest made in hidden camera investigation

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A local recreation center employee has been arrested in relation to a hidden camera found at the facility last month.

An employee of Great Neck Recreation Center on Shorehaven Drive noticed a suspicious looking electrical socket in an employee locker room, and discovered a hidden camera, according to James Cason with Virginia Beach Police.

A Police investigation began, including a thorough search of all city recreation centers. Cason said no other recording devices were found. A suspect was developed and was arrested Monday.

Matthew James Ludwick, 31, of Virginia Beach was charged with felony attempt to create unlawful image of a minor and misdemeanor attempt to create unlawful image of another.

Cason said Ludwick was an employee of the recreation center at the time the hidden camera was discovered. Director of Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation Michael Kalvort told on Tuesday that Ludwick was still an employee of the city of Virginia Beach, but was not working at any recreation centers.

On Thursday, Kalvort said Ludwick had been suspended without pay, pending the outcome o his criminal charges.

Ludwick was released from police custody on $10,000 bond. He is set to appear in court on Sept. 24.
