Single-vehicle accident closes portion of Route 58

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue were called to the 2600 block of Holland Rd/Rt. 58 around 12:30 Wednesday morning for a single-vehicle accident near King’s Mobile Home Park.

Witnesses advised a Nissan Sentra was traveling eastbound on Rt. 58, crossed over to the westbound lanes before running off the road, overturned and came to rest in a ditch near a tree.

According to a press release from Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk, the 24-year-old female driver was entrapped in the vehicle. Firefighters used the jaws of life to remove the roof and extricate her from the car.

The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in stable condition.

The westbound lanes of Holland Rd. were closed while crews worked to investigate and clear the accident scene. As of 5 a.m., all lanes of Holland Rd. were open.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
