Lithuanian sentenced for forklift export attempt

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A Lithuanian national was sentenced Monday for trying to export a forklift out of the Port of Virginia.

Carissa Cutrell with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Aras Balkus stole a Caterpillar forklift from a site in Illinois, disassembled it and sent it to Chesapeake for shipping to Lithuania.

ICE agents investigated and discovered the forklift as stolen, leading up to Balkus’ arrest.
