HAMPTON, Va,. (WAVY) — A man found dead inside a charred truck in Hampton Tuesday morning was shot first, police confirm.
The autopsy results came back Wednesday and showed the victim, identified as Marlon Previs Taylor of Hampton, died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.
Based on the new information, Hampton Police are now investigating his death as a homicide. after a body was found in the parking lot of a Sears in Hampton Tuesday morning.
Taylor’s body was discovered inside a 2006 Dodge Dakota in the in the parking lot outside the Sears along the 5200 block of West Mercury Boulevard.
The Hampton Fire Department received a call about the fire at 4 a.m. Crews responded and put out the fire, but did not see the body in the truck. Officials said they thought at first the fire had been started by lightning. According to Sgt. Jason Price with the Hampton Police Division, a passerby spotted the body in the truck around 10:30 a.m. and called police. Officers arrived to find the body in the cab of the burned truck.
Hampton Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect(s) responsible for this homicide.
