VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Two men became stranded in the Elizabeth River early Monday morning after their 21-foot speed boat got stuck in a marsh near I-64 and the Twin Bridges.
According to Virginia Beach Fire Department Battalion Chief John Keyes, dispatchers received a call for assistance around 2:30 a.m. Monday from one of the men on the boat. The man reported he and his brother, both in their 50s, were injured and needed assistance.
Virginia Beach Police, Virginia Beach Fire Rescue and Virginia Beach Marine units responded to the area and found the men. They were able to pull them to safety and transport them to the hospital with minor injuries.
Another family member set out on a jet ski to help the boaters, but then he got stuck in the mud at low tide. The man kept in contact with rescue personnel via telephone. Around 6 a.m., he freed himself when the tide rose, according to officials.
