Suspicious package at childhood center deemed safe

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk early childhood center was closed Monday morning after a suspicious package was found on the campus.

According to Norfolk Police, shortly before 6 a.m., a concerned citizen contacted the Norfolk Emergency Communications Center in reference to a suspicious package at Berkley Campostella Early Childhood Development Center at 1530 Cypress Street.

Just after 8 a.m. the police department deemed the package safe. It turned out to be an Amazon delivery package that had been left under a tree.

The childhood center has since reopened.

The intersections of Cypress Street and Melon Street, and Cypress Street and Isaac Street have also reopened.

No reported injuries.
