Tides-Orioles agree to four-year extension

NORFOLK, Va.  (WAVY) – The Baltimore Orioles and Norfolk Tides announced on Thursday that they have agreed to a four-year extension.

The Tides have been the AAA affiliate of the Orioles since 2007. Previously, the Tides were the New York Mets top affiliate from 1969-2006.

“We are extremely excited to continue out partnership with the Baltimore Orioles,” Tides President Ken Young said in a statement released by the team. “We’ve had a great relationship with the Orioles over our eight-year affiliation, and they’ve become such a valuable figure in the Hampton Roads community. They are obviously having a very successful season, and we are thrilled to know that several of their key players have played here in Norfolk before experiencing success at the Major League level.”

Former Tides that have played pivotal roles for the first-place Orioles this season include catcher Caleb Joseph, infielder Jonathan Schoop and pitchers Chris Tillman and Kevin Gausman. In total, 19 of the 33 players currently on the Orioles active roster are former members of the Tides.
