HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Hampton Police say they’ve tracked down the suspect in a 2013 homicide. He was already in jail.

Police arrested Kenard Collins on Sept. 3 and charged him with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, for the murder of 29-year-old Michelle Williams.

Police were called to the 300 block of Greenbriar Avenue just after midnight on October 18 and discovered Williams in the front yard of a home, with fatal gunshot wounds.

According to Cpl. Mary Shackelford, the investigation revealed Williams got into a verbal argument with the suspect just prior to the shooting. Police say they knew each other.

Detectives served indictments on Collins at the Peninsula Regional Jail where he is serving time on an unrelated charge.
