2 businesses in Suffolk evacuated due to gas leak

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A McDonald’s and Super 8 Hotel in Suffolk were evacuated while crews repaired a gas leak in the area, Thursday.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue and Suffolk Police arrived on the scene along the 100 block of West Constance Road and North Main Street, shortly before 10 a.m.

Police shutdown the southbound lane on North Main Street for about one hour while crews capped the leak.

According to authorities, a contractor had ruptured a gas line while working in the area.

All roads and businesses have since reopened.
