Suspects fire shots at fleeing taxi cab

Company spokesman: Driver used onboard panic button

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Two men are wanted for a violent attempted robbery of a cab driver in Norfolk Tuesday night.

The driver told police he was on his way to pick up a fare in the 300 block of E. Little Creek Road around 11:40 p.m. when two men approached the cab. One of them broke the driver side window. The cab driver took off and he said the suspects fired several gunshots at his vehicle.

The victim received minor injuries from the shattered glass. Frank Azzalina, spokesman for Yellow Cab of Norfolk, told WAVY.com the driver has been with the company two years. “Thankfully the driver was unharmed. Yellow Cab of Norfolk prides itself on driver safety. We have onboard panic buttons for the drivers which he utilized. We have onboard digital cameras and on board safes, all of which are designed for driver safety,” said Azzalina.

Police released the following descriptions of the suspects:

Suspect #1: 5’10”, athletic build, with shoulder length dreads, wearing a white t-shirt, dark pants, and a white cloth over this face.
Suspect #2: 5’7”, tall with a stocky build, dark ball cap, wearing a white t-shirt, and dark pants.
