NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Four families were displaced after an apartment fire made their homes uninhabitable Wednesday.
At around 12:40 p.m., crews responded to an apartment fire in the 1100 block of Hanna Street, according to Battalion Chief Julian E. Williamson with Norfolk Fire-Rescue. About four minutes later, units arrived at the scene to find smoke coming from the complex and people evacuating.
Firefighters discovered the smoke was coming from a kitchen fire, which was controlled quickly. The fire did, however, cause smoke and fire damage inside the apartment, as well as smoke damage to neighboring apartments.
Four families, totaling eight adults and three children, were displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting them.
No one was injured.
