NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Police say a driver ran a red light in Norfolk Tuesday afternoon, causing a crash that knocked down a light pole.

The accident happened around 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of Monticello Avenue and East 26th Street. The preliminary investigation revealed a pickup truck went through a red light on Monticello and hit a Volvo traveling eastbound on East 26th Street. The Volvo then ran into a light pole.

Dominion Virginia Power crews responded to repair the damage to the pole. Traffic in both directions on Monticello Avenue was rerouted to East 25th Street and East 27th Street until the repairs were made.

Police say there were no injuries.

The pickup truck driver was charged with disregard a red light and driving without a valid operator’s license.
