Godwin Boulevard reopens following serious crash

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — An SUV crash on Godwin Blvd. Monday morning near Moore Farm Lane closed the road in both directions.

According to Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk, the crash happened around 6:28 a.m. in the 4900 block of Godwin Road when a Ford Explorer traveling south ran off the road and hit a tree.

The driver the SUV was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be freed by rescue crews. Her received emergency medical treatment for life-threatening injuries from Suffolk Fire and Rescue personnel and volunteers from the Chuckatuck Volenteer Fire Department.

Crews took the driver to Sentara Obici Hospital where the nightingale air ambulance then flew him to Sentara Norfolk General for treatment. On Tuesday, the driver remained hospitalized, but in fair condition.

Medics took the only passenger in the Explorer to Riverside hosptial with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
