BLACKSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – As is the case after every game, there are things to improve upon. But head coach Frank Beamer was very satisfied after seeing Michael Brewer start his first game at quarterback for the Virginia Tech Hokies.
“You talk about the stage not being too big; I thought he was very much in control. He handled himself great, picked up some valuable yards, never panicked, ” said Beamer after the Hokies’ 34-9 win over the College of William & Mary Saturday afternoon.
Brewer completed 23-of-30 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns. He did have an interception, but it was off a tipped pass.
“I’d like to think whenever an opportunity comes to make a play, we’re going to make it,” said Brewer, who transferred from Texas Tech in June, “If not, we’ll try to pick up a first down or whatever we can with my legs and if not, we’ll shelf it and play the next play.”
The next game for the Hokies will be in Columbus, Ohio, when they take on national power Ohio State.
