PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — The Coast Guard rescued three men Sunday after a jet ski accident in the Chesapeake Bay near Fort Monroe.
Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads was notified by Paradise Ocean Club in Hampton that two men were overdue to return with a jet ski. Watchstanders from Portsmouth and Little Creek, as well as the Hampton Fire Department, launched response boats.
The men, who had at some point picked up an additional passenger, were located on the Thimble Shoal range towers. They were taken to Old Point Comfort Marina in Hampton, where they were evaluated by awaiting EMS.
Coast Guard officials say the men were riding the jet ski when it overturned and swamped, then floated a mile east of Fort Monroe. The men were able to swim to and climb onto the range towers.
No one was injured during the incident.
