Virginia Tech overpowers William & Mary 34-9 in opener

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – Michael Brewer, the transfer from Texas Tech University, tossed two touchdown strikes and completed 23-of-30 passes to lead Virginia Tech past the college of William & Mary 34-9 on Saturday afternoon.

The junior opened up the scoring when he found Isiah Ford wide open in the back of the endzone for a 13-yard strike, and then in the second quarter, capitalized on a Tribe turnover with a 8-yard lob to Bucky Hodges (Virginia Beach).

The Hokies’ defense only surrendered 193 total yards and turned the Tribe over twice, while new Tribe quarterback Steve Cluley only completed 8-of-21 passes for 108 yards and no touchdowns.

William & Mary returns home to play rival Hampton next weekend, while the Hokies will now start preparing for Ohio State this week.
