VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) A crash on I-264 east near the Independence Blvd. exit injured a Virginia State Trooper Sunday afternoon.

Around 1 p.m. Trooper A.J. Vance was sitting on his State Police motorcycle on the shoulder of I-264 when traffic began to slow due to congestion. A car attempted to avoid the slowing vehicle in front of it by swerving off the interstate, hitting Trooper Vance, according to Corrine Geller with Virginia State Police.

Medics took the injured Trooper to Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital for treatment of his injuries which Geller described as “serious but non-life-threatening”. The driver of the car was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
