NAGS HEAD, N.C. (WAVY) – Two sea turtles were released into the ocean Sunday after they were rescued by officials at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island and the Network for Endangered Sea Turtles (N.E.S.T.)

“Vortex”, a loggerhead sea turtle, was hit by a propeller last year and was nursed back to health at the North Carolina Aquarium. The turtle received a CT scan at the Sentara Kitty Hawk campus as part of its rehabilitation process. Vortex had a transmitter attached to its shell before it was released. You will be able to track Vortex’s journey at this link.

“Heatwave”, a former exhibit green sea turtle, was also released Sunday morning at Nags Head Town Hall Beach Access, near Mile Post 15.
