NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News woman was arrested after police say she maliciously drove a vehicle into an apartment Thursday night.
Around 10:13 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Hawkeye Court for a report of a woman trying to get into an apartment. Before police arrived, 911 dispatchers learned the woman had driven her vehicle into the front of the apartment and then left the scene, according to Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department.
Once at the scene, an officer spoke with the victim, a 23-year-old Newport News woman, who said the suspect was her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend, Latoya Johnson. She said Johnson repeatedly honked the horn of her vehicle, and when the victim went outside to ask her to leave, she said Johnson sprayed her in the face with mace, and then the two began to fight.
The victim said she was able to get back inside her apartment, but that’s when she said Johnson crashed her vehicle into the victim’s vehicle and then into the apartment’s living room, twice.
McPherson said the victim, her two young children and her boyfriend were inside the residence at the time of the incident.
The victim was treated by medics at the scene for the mace, but no one else was injured.
McPherson said the apartment was condemned and the residents are staying with family members.
Latoya Patrice Johnson, 28, of Newport News was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, two counts destruction of property, malicious assault by means of a caustic substance, and four counts of attempt to commit malicious wounding.
