NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News man was taken into police custody Wednesday, after getting involved with a married couple’s argument.
Sergeant Randall Rajkumar said officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Madison Avenue for a report of an assault around 9:15 p.m.
At the scene, officers said they met a disorderly 54-year-old man and his wife. When the man calmed down, he told police he and his wife had been in a verbal argument when 43-year-old James Lee Dandridge intervened.
Soon, the man and Dandridge were engaged in a physical fight, causing the victim injuries that were not life-threatening. Still, he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Dandridge, who had left the scene to “cool off,” returned while officers were still there. He was arrested for malicious wounding, Rajkumar said.
Police say all three individuals were housemates, living in the same rooming house.
