Coast Guard rescues man from tug boat

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WAVY) – The Coast Guard responded to a medical call off Hatteras Island Thursday.

The Coast Guard received the call around 7:45 p.m. and launched a lifeboat crew from Station Hatteras Inlet to medevac a 30-year-old man experiencing chest pain and numbness aboard a 94-foot tug boat. The tug was approximately 10 miles southeast of Hatteras Inlet.

Once returning to shore, the patient was flown to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk via MedFlight.

He was last reported to be in stable condition.
