VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A piece of living history is visiting Hampton Roads this weekend.
FDNY Rescue Four is one of the trucks that responded to the terror attacks on 9-11. Six firefighters on the truck ran into the south tower of the World Trade Center and never came out.
The Newport News Fire Department is hosting the travelling memorial, and 10 On Your Side stopped to check it out in Virginia Beach on Friday.
“This is a living memorial. This is a piece of history in that we hope to never forget, these brave heroes who went running into this building, and over 15,000 lives were saved thanks to their efforts,” said Jerry Reed with the NNFD.
The truck tours the country as part of the Rescue Remembrance Project. It will be in Hampton Roads until September 8.
