NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The Norfolk State football team opens the season Saturday on the road against the Maine Black Bears.

With quarterback Tyler Clark recovering from a hamstring injury, coach Pete Adrian is turning the ball over to Malik Stokes.

“He’s had a great camp,” Adrian said. “He threw a touchdown pass a year ago against Maine and that was his very first time in competition, so he’s got a few games under his belt and we’re expecting him to do good things.”

Stokes, a redshirt junior, transferred from Bowling Green is ready to get the season underway.

“I’m always happy when the season rolls around,” Stokes said. “It’s been a long time since last season, I think we have a lot to prove on offense and I think we have a great chance at winning this game.”

After playing at Maine on Saturday, NSU hosts Liberty the following week.
