VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A high-profile case has made its way to court.
Walter Hubbard appeared in front of a judge Thursday morning for a preliminary hearing in his murder case, during which he waived his right to a preliminary hearing.
In April, Virginia Beach police say Hubbard walked into Beach Pharmacy on Laskin Road and demanded drugs from Pharmacist David Kilgore.
When Kilgore refused to give Hubbard Oxycodone, detectives say Hubbard shot Kilgore and went to a second pharmacy to get the drugs. He fled and led officers on a 12-mile pursuit throughout the city, firing a stolen gun at officers at least 17 times along the way. The chase ended in a crash at the intersection of Witchduck Road and Virginia Beach Boulevard.
Hubbard’s case is scheduled to go before the grand jury Sept. 15 and his next court appearance is a month later.
Hubbard faces charges of first-degree murder, robbery and attempted robbery.
