DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) – A Manteo man is accused of ramming a Dare Sheriff’s vehicle during a chase that ended with his arrest.
Around 7 p.m. the night of August 27, members of the Dare County Narcotics Task Force attempted to stop a vehicle on Old Wharf Road. The driver sped off and a pursuit ensued. Officers chased the vehicle down Highway 345 in Wanchese, then continued across the bridges on the Nags Head Causeway to the 64/158/NC12 intersection at Whalebone. In an attempt to escape, the suspect hit a Dare Sheriff’s vehicle near the Dairy Queen on 158, according to Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard. Officers managed to pin the vehicle between theirs and took the suspect into custody.
One officer received a minor injury that didn’t require medical treatment. There are no other injuries reported.
David Allen Lee faces 24 charges: assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, two counts sell or deliver heroin, two counts possession with intent to manufacture/sell or deliver heroin, nine counts resist public officer, flee or elude arrest with motor vehicle, damage to personal property, two counts speeding, and six other traffic violations.
Lee is in custody at the Dare County Detention Center.
