Dump truck downs power lines, traffic signal

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — An intersection in Suffolk is partially closed after a dump truck downed power lines and a traffic signal Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of Bennetts Pasture Road and Kings Highway, according to Diana Klink with Suffolk police.

While the driver was not injured, fire and rescue crews responded to the scene to make sure there were no energized power lines on the roadway.

Dominion Virginia Power and traffic engineers are working to make repairs and replace equipment. The work could take until about 7 p.m. to complete. Until then, one lane is closed and police are alternating traffic in the open lane.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation, Klink said.

Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel are currently on the scene of an accident involving downed lines partially crossing a roadway.
