VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia Beach Police confirm a missing jet skier in Sandbridge has been found and is ok.

Crews were back out early Thursday morning searching for the jet skier, who was reported missing the previous night.

According to police dispatchers, the man left the boat ramp in the 3600 block of Sandpiper Road around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was reported missing at 8:30 p.m. after he didn’t return. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter, Virginia Beach Police, and Emergency Medical Services all responded to assist in the search Wednesday night.

Virginia Beach Police notified the Coast Guard at 10:15 p.m. about the missing jet skier. A USCG spokesperson told WAVY.com the Coast Guard launched a MH-60 Jayhawk from Air Station Elizabeth City. The Coast Guard began its search at 11:30 p.m. They called off the search around 1 a.m.

Officer James Cason with Virginia Beach Police says it’s been determined the man’s jet ski ran aground in Back Bay when the tide was low. An officer found him walking down a street in Sandbridge Thursday morning around 7 a.m. Cason did have information yet on how the man made it back to land from the jet ski.
