NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The Tides got a dominating performance from 24-year-old pitcher Tyler Wilson Wednesday afternoon in Norfolk’s 5-1 win over the Durham Bulls.
Wilson struck out ten batters over six innings of shutout baseball. The former University of Virginia pitcher has been a bright spot for the Baltimore Orioles organization.
“Tyler’s done a really nice job for us, he’s pitched really well since he got promoted here,” Tides manager Ron Johnson said. “He’s one of numerous interesting young players we have in this organization, and makes you believe that the Orioles are on the right track because you see guys like Tyler Wilson coming through the system.”
Wilson grew up outside of Richmond, and pitching in Norfolk has served him well, he’s unbeaten at home.
“I really enjoyed my time here at Harbor Park,” Wilson said. “I’ve just enjoyed the experience, the environment here, being able to be so close to my friends and family and have my folks down and have a chance to see me pitch on a week-to-week basis is really a true blessing, so I’ve been thankful for that.”
Wilson’s win today was his 14th of the season (including AA Bowie) which is second best in the minor leagues.
