NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — The wife of a Newport News man was arrested Monday after police say she threw pliers at her husband’s back, among other things.
Just after 8 p.m. on August 13, officers were dispatched to the first block of Boston Cove for a domestic incident, according to Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department.
At the scene, police were met by the victim, an 18-year-old man who said his estranged wife had damaged his vehicle with a pair of pliers and slashed the tires a few hours prior. The couple’s infant daughter was just a few feet away during the incident, that ended with the wife throwing the pliers into the man’s back, McPherson said.
The wife, 19-year-old Abigail Cruz, then left and returned a few hours later. That’s when the victim said Cruz tried to get inside his residence and threw an object through the home’s front window.
Cruz was not at the scene when police arrived, but warrants were obtained for assault of a family member, violation of a protective order, and child neglect. She was arrested around 5 p.m. Monday, August 25 in the first block of South Pine Court.
