DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — A grand jury in Dare County returned indictments for a Manns Harbor man, accusing him of sex crimes against a juvenile.
The Dare County Sheriff’s Office began investigating a report of a sex crime against a juvenile in early July, according to Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard. The Criminal Investigative Division conducted extensive interviews and subsequently submitted five indictments for 32-year-old Joshua Rueben Austin.
At the Dare County Grand Jury’s most recent session, they issued true bills of indictment for all five offenses.
Austin was arrested on August 21 and charged with the following: first degree sex offense under 13 years of age, three counts of indecent liberties with a child, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Hoggard said Austin was committed to the Dare County Detention Center in lieu of a $180,000 bond.
