VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A Chesapeake man has been charged after a small dog suffered severe injuries while in his care, police say.

Around 10 a.m. on August 11, Emergency Communications in Virginia Beach received a 911 call from a dog owner, who was upset about the injuries the dog suffered while in another person’s care.

Animal Control officers responded to a local veterinarian’s office, where the five-year-old Pomeranian was being treated for severe trauma, including multiple broken bones, according to Animal Control Supervisor Meghan Conti.

The suspect, 25-year-old Joseph Quinton Moxley, was charged with misdemeanor animal, Conti said.

Moxley was released from police custody, but the case is still being investigated.
