NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A Newport News man who told police he had been hit with a baseball bat is now facing charges.
Officers were called to the 100 block of Deep Creek Saturday night to investigate an assault. When they arrived, medics were already there treating a 45-year-old man who had been hit in the head with a bat.
According to police spokeswoman Holly McPherson, the investigation revealed the man’s teenage children were arguing with their neighbor, Stewart Botkin. The victim came out of his house and, at some point, was hit with a bat.
Mr. Botkin told police he had been struck with the bat, but McPherson said his injuries were not consistent with injuries he would have received if he had been hit by a bat. Police arrested Botkin and charged him with malicious wounding.
The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
