Two wounded in shooting outside hookah lounge

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — An argument between two groups of men outside a Newport News hookah lounge early Saturday morning ended in gunfire and left two men wounded.

According to Officer Holly McPherson with Newport News police, the men began arguing in the parking lot of the Hookah King Lounge at 6139 Jefferson Avenue around 1 a.m. and at some point someone began shooting.

Officers responded to the scene and found a 21-year-old Newport News man shot in the leg and upper body. Medics took him to the hospital where he is expected to recover. Investigators say he was one of the men involved in the argument.

A second 21-year-old victim was taken to the hospital by his friends after a bullet struck his foot and another grazed his head. His injuries are not considered life-threatening. Police say the second victim was not involved in the confrontation and just happened to be in the parking lot at the time of the shooting.
