WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – Next Saturday, William & Mary opens its season on the road against Virginia Tech.
The Tribe are no strangers to playing the big schools of the FBS, in fact, coach Jimmye Laycock schedules one every season.
He has said he wants all of his recruits to experience the environment of playing in those types of atmospheres. His teams usually respond. In 2009 W&M defeated Virginia, and had close calls the last two years.
“We played well last year against West Virginia, we played well against Maryland, we beat Virginia,” coach Laycock said. “We’ve had some wins, but our players need to know mistakes will be magnified against them.”
Wide receiver Tre McBride says the goal against Virginia Tech is the same as any other game.
“We’re not going up there to stay close,” McBride said. “We’re going up there to win.”
