Rabid bat found in James City County basement

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Health department officials want to warn you about a rabid bat found in James City County this week.

According to the Peninsula Health District, a bat was found dead in the basement of a home in the Kingspoint area. The bat was tested for the rabies virus and the results were positive.

Anyone who may have been exposed to a bat in that area recently, whether it be a bite, scratch or contact with saliva by open wound or eyes, nose or mouth, is asked to call the Health Department at 757-603-4277. That direct exposure warning and request also goes for your pets.
