Tides pitcher loses no-hitter in ninth inning

DURHAM, NC (WAVY) – Tides pitcher Mike Wright has an inconsistent season for Norfolk. Entering Thursday’s game against the Durham Bulls, the 24-year-old Wright was 4-11 with an ERA over 5.

Wright however turned in his best pitching performance of the season vs. the Bulls. He had a no-hitter with two outs in the ninth inning, but he surrendered a deep double to Mikie Mahtook to end the no-hit bid.

The last Tides no-hitter was by Chris Tillman four years ago.

Wright went 8.2 innings with 11 strikeouts. The Tides ended up winning 5-0.

They’re back home Tuesday for the final homestand of the season.
