VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A 19-year-old is behind bars Thursday night after police say he caused a multi-vehicle crash in Virginia Beach.
Around 7:30 a.m., officers responded to a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Virginia Beach Boulevard and Dorset Avenue, according to James Cason with the Virginia Beach Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers found two people trapped inside vehicles, who were extricated quickly. Three people were transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Cason said.
The driver who police say caused the crash was 19-year-old Stephen S. Owens of Virginia Beach. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of drugs, failure to maintain control of a vehicle, no seat belt and no insurance, Cason said.
Owens is being held at the Virginia Beach City Jail without bond.
