NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A suspicious package was found inside Newport News Circuit Court Wednesday morning, but has since been determined to be safe.

Just after 9 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office evacuated the entire building, including all judges, court personnel, attorneys, inmates and visitors, as a precaution.

The Newport News Sheriff’s Office Bomb K9 Handler was called to the scene to sweep the area and the department’s bomb squad entered the building. The package was found in Circuit 1 at the courthouse.
