Challenge prompts spike in donations

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – If you’ve turned on a television or logged onto social media in the last couple weeks, you’ve likely seen people taking the “ice bucket challenge” in the name of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

There’s something more surprising than the shock of icy cold water, and that’s the unprecedented generosity that continues from challenge participants.

President and CEO of the ALS Association Barbara Newhouse joined us fro Washington, D.C. to talk about the campaign and why it has been so successful. Watch the full interview in the video above.
