(WAVY) – The crew of the Norfolk-based USS Bataan helped rescue a vessel in distress in the Arabian Gulf Tuesday.

According to Lt. Joe Hontz with 5th Fleet US Naval Forces Command in Bahrain, the USS Bataan witnessed a dhow in distress and learned it needed a new battery. Sailors provided a battery for the distressed vessel, and helped them get on their way.

Back in June, the USS Bataan and USS Elrod rescued almost 300 people from a sinking vessel in the Mediterranean Sea.

USS Bataan deployed in February.
