Chesapeake Council to vote on light rail study resolution

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – Tuesday marks the three year anniversary since the Tide started carrying passengers through Norfolk.

Since 2011, the trains have carried millions of riders from one end of the city to the Virginia Beach line.

Virginia Beach and Chesapeake both have plans to expand the line into their cities.

Tuesday night, Chesapeake council members are expected to vote on a resolution requesting state and federal funding for a study to extend the Tide into their city. That study will likely cost about $1.8 million and take about 18 months to complete.
