PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — The Portsmouth Health Department is offering free back-to-school vaccination clinics for kindergartners and rising 6th grade children.
According to the Jessica Mullen, Health Educator, 6th graders must be vaccinated against Tdap, which protects against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough), and kindergartners must be up to date on DTap, Polio, MMR (mumps, measles and rubella), and chicken pox to attend school.
The free clinics will cover the required vaccinations for children in those age groups.
Special clinics are offered on Saturdays and clinic times are extended on Wednesdays, beginning August 20. Anyone can also visit during regular immunization office hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 8 to 11 a.m. and 12:30 to 3:00 pm.
The Portsmouth Health Department is located at 1701 High Street. Bring a copy of your child’s current immunization record. If you have insurance, your company will be billed.
