Honey Bee Day celebrated in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – If you heard a lot of buzzing in Norfolk Saturday, there was a good reason: It was National Honey Bee Day.

Bee keepers and bee lovers celebrated at the Norfolk Botanical Garden at this year’s Virginia Honey Bee Festival. There was music, demonstrations, and even honey samples.

It wasn’t just about fun. Visitors got the chance to see why honey bees are so important to the environment.

“The object of this event is to educate people about the important role honey bees play in the pollination of our food supply,” explained Marcia Riley with the Norfolk Botanical Garden.

One way to help the honey bee population is to only use organic pesticides. They are safer for bees and other pollinators.
