HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Senator Mark Warner visited the Hampton VA Medical Center this week — just one of many facilities tied up in the nationwide scandal affecting thousands of veterans.
Warner said earlier this year how upsetting it was that VA centers in Richmond and Hampton were two of the biggest offenders of causing wait times for appointments.
Friday he said progress is being made to the system, but he continues to have concerns.
“It’s inexcusable that there are still numbers of people waiting more than 90 days to get a primary care appointment,” Warner told WAVY.com. “Now the numbers have come down dramatically. That’s good news. But still 90-120 days, if you’re a veteran, it’s inexcusable.”
Warner told 10 On Your Side that money is on the way to the VA, and he hopes it goes to get both long and short-term fixes, especially with hiring and contracting primary care doctors.
